Crucial Trading wool floor covering competition with KLC

Crucial Trading recently held a competition with students at KLC School of Design, in collaboration with Wools of New Zealand.   The competition was open to all students in year one of a two year foundation degree in interior design and invited them to think about designing a floor covering using wool and incorporating colour.

The students were given 10 days to interpret the brief ‘how can colour be introduced in the home through floor coverings’.  As well as offering a design challenge the competition also offered the students the opportunity to learn about the practicalities and technical restraints associated with the design and manufacture of wool floor covering.

Crucial Trading gathered an expert team of judges who were invited to the panel based on their interiors expertise and contribution to the industry.   Sitting alongside Emma Hopkins, Marketing Manager for Crucial Trading, were Nicole Salvesen and Mary Graham from London based interior design studio, Salvesen Graham,  Amy Moorea Wong, features Editor at Elle Decoration, and Grant Pierrus of the award winning Interior Style Hunter.

The judges faced a stiff decision with 15 top class and beautifully presented entries to choose between.  After much discussion about how each student interpreted the brief, the judges shortlisted three.  Danielle Palmer was ultimately announced as the winner at KLC’s end of year awards ceremony on 11th July 2018 and was presented with samples of her design in two colourways.

The samples will be on display at Crucial Trading’s stand F23 at Decorex from 16th – 19th September at Syon Park.
