Case Study: West One Bathrooms update a Master En-Suite in an Arts & Crafts house

The luxury, family-run West One Bathrooms design team, recently completed an interesting project: to bring an Arts & Crafts house in to the twenty-first century with a stunning bespoke master en-suite bathroom.

The bathroom is part of an extension added to the front of the house and the client was after a softer, feminine touch to the bathroom to provide a sanctuary away from the rest of the house.

As part of the Master suite, the design was kept open, with an open doorway through from the bedroom and dressing room, whilst providing privacy with a feature wall behind the bath to conceal the shower at one end and the WC at the other.  The open feel to the bathroom lead the design team to choose a rimless WC, so as to reduce the noise of the flush at night!

Soft chalky textures give a warm, airy feel to the space, and a distressed plank effect floor and walls in the shower area give the feel of an old Parisian apartment.  Behind the bath the West One Bathrooms designer wanted to create a soft elegant point of interest that would blend with, not fight against the rest of the room.  They settled on a bespoke mix of mosaics for Trend in a Damask pattern.  To draw the eye from the point of interest to the back wall the full width of the recess for the shower and WC area was created with the same Damask mosaic.   The recesses were lined with Corian, by Inbani as was behind the bath to tie up the textures and to avoid any tile trim.

The bath, from the brand antonilupo is made from Cristalplant  and has a lovely soft chalky texture, there are no hard glossy surfaces in the design of this bathroom.  This is followed through by the soft Corian double basin, which is paired with the gently curving ‘O’ collection taps by THG.  The basin floats seamlessly on the wall and is contrasted by a beautiful acid glass white unit below and soft back lit mirror above.  A discrete matt white heated bar for towels, floats on the wall below the TV.

The overall result is one of calm and tranquility,  which hits the clients brief perfectly.  Who wouldn’t want to be lying back in the bath watching a classic like Dirty Dancing at the end of a long day!
